The Credit Card I Use to Save Money on Amazon Purchases
How I Use My Credit Card to Earn BIG Cash Back on Amazon Purchases and Save Money
If you shop on Amazon often, finding simple ways to save money on the things you already buy can make a real difference over time. That is exactly why I love using the Amazon Prime Visa.
For me, this card is not about buying extra things. It is not about running up a balance. And it is definitely not about treating rewards like free money. I use it as a practical tool for purchases I was already planning to make, and then I pay the full balance off each month so I do not pay interest.
That is what makes this card helpful for me.
The current Prime Visa offer says Prime members can get a $150 Amazon Gift Card instantly loaded into their Amazon account upon approval. Chase also lists no annual fee, 5% back in key Amazon-related categories for eligible Prime members, 2% back in several everyday categories, and 1% back on all other purchases. Chase notes that offers can vary depending on where you apply and can change over time, so it is smart to review the current offer details before applying.

What Are the Amazon Prime Visa Benefits?
If you have been searching for Amazon Prime Visa benefits, here are the main perks that stand out most.
Current Prime Visa benefits include:
- $150 Amazon Gift Card upon approval for eligible Prime members
- 5% back at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and Chase Travel with an eligible Prime membership
- 2% back at gas stations, restaurants, and local transit and commuting, including rideshare
- 1% back on all other purchases
- No annual credit card fee
- No foreign transaction fees
- Rewards available as soon as the next day
- 10% back or more on rotating select Amazon items and categories for eligible Prime cardmembers
That is a pretty strong list of perks for a card that fits naturally into regular everyday life.
Why I Like This Card So Much
One reason I like this card is because it rewards spending I was already doing anyway.
Like many women, I use Amazon for all kinds of practical things:
- household items
- pantry staples
- gifts
- office supplies
- beauty products
- everyday odds and ends
Since I was already buying those things, using the card lets me earn cash back on purchases I would have made no matter what.
That is why, for me, this card feels useful rather than tempting. It helps me save a little on regular spending instead of pushing me to spend more.
The Perk of Applying for the Card
The current application perk is one of the reasons this card catches people’s attention right away.
According to Chase, Prime members currently get a $150 Amazon Gift Card instantly loaded into their Amazon account’s Gift Card Balance upon approval of their credit card application. That means the bonus is tied to approval, not to hitting a spending threshold later.
That is a nice perk if you are already planning to get the card anyway.
A couple things to keep in mind:
- this is the Prime Visa offer, not the non-Prime Amazon Visa offer
- the Amazon Visa currently shows a $50 Amazon Gift Card on approval, not $150
- Chase says offers may vary depending on where you apply and can change over time
So before applying, make sure you are looking at the current offer attached to the exact card and link you plan to use.
How I Use the Amazon Prime Visa to Earn Cash Back
If someone asked me how I use this card in a smart way, I would break it down like this:
- I use it for purchases I was already going to make.
I do not shop extra just to earn rewards. - I use it most often on Amazon purchases.
That is where the 5% back can really add up for Prime members. - I sometimes use it in the 2% categories too.
Gas stations, restaurants, and local transit can help rewards build even faster. - I watch for limited-time bonus offers.
Chase says eligible cardmembers may see offers for 10% back or more on select Amazon items and categories. - I pay the balance off in full every month.
This is the most important part because rewards lose their value quickly if you start paying interest. Chase lists a variable APR of 18.74% to 27.49% for the card.
That simple system is what makes this card work well for me.
My Favorite Amazon Prime Visa Perks
There are several things I like about this card, but these are the perks I use and notice the most.
1. Five percent back at Amazon and related categories
This is the main reason many people get the card. Chase says eligible Prime members earn unlimited 5% back at:
- Amazon.com
- Amazon Fresh
- Whole Foods Market
- Chase Travel
If you’re already shopping on Amazon, why not get cash back? The rewards can add up quickly.
2. Rewards on everyday spending
The 2% back categories make the card even more useful beyond Amazon.
Those include:
- gas stations
- restaurants
- local transit and commuting
- rideshare services
That means you can keep building rewards during normal life, not just while placing Amazon orders.
3. No annual fee
I love that there is no annual fee. That makes the card easier to keep and easier to justify if you are using it responsibly.
4. No foreign transaction fees
This may not matter to everyone, but it is still a helpful perk if you travel. Chase says the Prime Visa has no foreign transaction fees.
5. Fast rewards
Chase says rewards can be available as soon as the next day. That is a nice touch if you like seeing your rewards build quickly.
6. Rotating special offers
Eligible Prime cardmembers may also get 10% back or more on a rotating selection of items and categories on Amazon. I think this is one of the easiest perks to forget about, but it can be a great bonus when it lines up with something you already needed to buy.
Why I Prefer This Over Using My Debit Card
This is another BIG reason I like using this card.
I prefer using a credit card for all online purchases instead of using a debit card tied directly to my checking account. I like the separation. I do not love the idea of every online order and every in-store swipe connecting directly to my checking account.
Of course, no payment method is perfect, and fraud is always something to watch for. But for me, using a credit card instead of a debit card gives me a lot more peace of mind.
That may not be the selling point for everyone, but it is definitely one of the reasons this card works so well for me personally.
Smart Tips for Using the Amazon Prime Visa Wisely
If you want this card to actually help you instead of hurt you, here are the habits I think matter most.
Best practices for using this card well:
- Pay the balance in full each month
- Use it for planned purchases only
- Do not treat rewards like free money
- Check for bonus category offers before you shop
- Keep an eye on your Prime membership status
- Redeem rewards intentionally instead of mindlessly
Who This Card May Be Best For
In my opinion, the Amazon Prime Visa makes the most sense for someone who:
- already shops on Amazon often
- already has Prime or plans to keep it
- wants a simple cash back card
- pays credit cards off monthly
- likes earning rewards on things they already buy
- prefers not to use a debit card for every transaction
If that sounds like you, this card may be a good fit.
Is the Amazon Prime Visa Worth It?
For me, yes — but only because I use it a certain way.
I think the Amazon Prime Visa is worth it if:
- you shop on Amazon regularly
- you will actually use the 5% categories
- you pay the balance off in full
- you want a no-annual-fee card
- you like simple rewards instead of complicated points systems
I do not think any rewards card is worth it if it tempts you to overspend or carry a balance month after month.
That is where the line is for me.
My Honest Thoughts
I love this card because it fits real life.
It rewards spending I was already doing. It helps me build cash back on Amazon purchases. It gives me a nice application perk if I am approved. It has no annual fee. And it gives me another option besides swiping my debit card for everything.
Most of all, I like that it works best when used with common sense.
That is the heart of it. This card can be a really practical money-saving tool, but only if you use it with self-control. For me, that means making planned purchases, keeping spending in check, and paying the balance off every month.
